Lecture: ‘What they call the fringe, we call home’
Come and hear MP and now author Bjørn Brandenborg talk about his new book ‘What they call outskirts we call home’. (Only in danish)
Lecture with Bjørn Brandenborg
Many people feel that Denmark has become more divided. Important social functions and power have been centralised in the big cities, and parts of the metropolitan area are moving away from the rest of the country. Incomes are rising, more people are becoming property millionaires, and new high-income earners are moving in. Copenhagen can even afford to lower taxes. The opposite is true in many outlying areas, where the last bus left yesterday, the bank has closed for loans, primary schools are closing and the doctor has retired. We are being split into the A- and B-team of the welfare state.
But it's not all doom and gloom. With brand new statistics, entertaining cases, a social science foundation and strong opinions, Bjørn Brandenborg and Lars Olsen contribute to the debate on the differences between urban and rural areas in their book. It is both a celebration of life in the provinces with nature, unity and active community life and a realistic interpretation of the difficulties associated with living in peripheral Denmark.
